Book review: Malachim by Naima Simone

Secrets and Sins: Malachim (A Secrets and Sins Novel #2)Secrets and Sins: Malachim by Naima Simone
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This was an excellent read considering this is my introduction to this author. It's part of a series, and is not the first one in it, but it reads fine without missing any details.
The story's strength is in the way emotions unfolded, how one can understand and relate to them without being in an abusive relationship. Malachim and Daniella are both damaged goods because of their histories but they find the strength to trust and believe in love.
There were parts were emotions were repeated, the heroine's stubbornness to hold her secrets from the one man that stood by her side no matter what, was unreasonable, and there were times the constant tension and danger Daniella was in was exhausting. Then again, I think this is what makes this story closer to reality and the heart.
It's not fluffy romance, there are detailed violent scenes and memories but, again, that's what makes this story more real.
If you're into romance, don't mind reading about detailed abuse and self-doubt, then give this book a try. I enjoyed this ride.

Guest Post: A Man To Trust by Cheryl Yeko

Hi, Su. Thank you for having me as a guest today to talk about my new release, A Man To Trust. And thank you for the wonderful videos you created for both my novels, you do awesome work!
A Man To Trust is based on a double murder trial that I sat on as a juror last summer. Of course, the romance is totally made up, but the details of the crime are based on what I learned over the two weeks of trial. The characters are also loosely based on individuals involved in the case as well. I built a romance between the lead detective on the case, and the widow of one of the murdered drug dealers. How fun is that!

This is the second book, in a series of three. The first, Protecting Rose, was my debut novel and came out last December. It won the 2012 Gayle Wilson Award of Excellence, which was very exciting for me. I'm hoping to repeat the success with A Man To Trust!

My third novel planned for this trilogy is Rick and Sheila's story, (no title yet) who are both characters from Protecting Rose. Rick is also in, A Man To Trust. My plan is to complete the arc and bring all the characters together one last time. This time, Rick gets the girl!
So, stay tuned. And I hope everyone enjoys, A Man To Trust.

Spellbound 2011 by Multiple Authors

Spellbound 2011Spellbound 2011 by Jenny Twist
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

It is rare to find a book that is aptly titled to befit the stories within it. It is also surprising to like every story in an anthology. Spellbound 2011 scores on both accounts.

Without giving the stories away, Spellbound 2011 has werewolves, a possible vampire, a haunted house…among other elements of the darker fiction. Each author succeeded in building a tense tale that drew me in until the last word in each. The book is like a quilt, each section created by a different person, yet all the pieces fit together to make it one complete masterpiece.

I'm already familiar with Jenny Twist's masterful writing, now I have 8 new authors (for me) to check out.

Blurb:
Newspaper columnist, Monroe Donovan, is haunted by the murder of her childhood friend. Twenty-five years ago, Katie Broussard was grabbed from Monroe's backyard and brutally slain. The murderer was never caught, but it's been three years since his last kill, and Monroe is hopeful that the monster has finally stopped.
Trying to generate evidence that will help identify the killer, Monroe writes a series of articles on the murders. But, rather than help solve the case, it appears the articles might have woken a sleeping maniac. Another young girl is found dead, and evidence implies the killer is trying to get Monroe's attention.
When more girls are murdered, and someone close to Monroe is kidnapped, she becomes embroiled in a game of cat and mouse. What the killer doesn't know is that this mouse knows some games of her own...and with stakes this high, Monroe is determined to come out the winner.
